Here's How It Actually Went!!! Well, here's how it actually went last night: The party was told they'd be fighting the three Hurk brothers(8th level fighters each), with whom they'd built up a grudge. No armor, no weapons for the PC's. Anti magic zone by priests of Mitra prevent rings, etc. from functioning. The three Hurk brothers are sitting with no armor in lawn chairs at the opposite end of the arena holding whips (so that the tigers don't attack them) and ready to trip anyone who approach them. 8 tigers emerge from gates at the opposite end. The party works up the crowd. Like this: TTTT.........TTTT .....H1 H2 H3 . . . ......BRMSF Round 2 Fighter- Charges the Hurk brother in the middle(H2). H2, H3 readied whip-trip actions fail to trip her. She punches one guy in the nose for a pittance. Barbarian-Charges the H1. Readied whip-trip action drops her 10 feet away from him. Ranger-Does nothing!!!! Hurk Brothers&Tigers: 2 tigers converge on the fighter; 4 tigers converge on the tripped Barbarian. 2 tiger2 attack the Ranger. Massive damage is done to all. Monk-Charges Hurk brother (H1) and disarms him, taking the whip. Shadowdancer/Rogue: Hides in plain sight ....MH1 H2 H3 ......T.F .....TB.TT .....TT .......TT .......R....S Round 3 Fighter-Punches H2 on first attack, fails to disarm on 2nd attack, disarms on 3rd attack. Barbarian-Attacks a tiger, it sustains about 30 and I had it run away Ranger-Attacks the tiger twice. Hurk Brothers&Tigers: Ranger drops. Barbarian drops. H2 is attacked now that he doesn't have a whip. H3 fails two trip disarm attacks against the fighter. Monk-Drives off the tigers on the barbarian with the whip. Shadowdancer/Rogue-Sneak attacks the tiger on the Ranger. Round 4 Fighter-Fighter disarms H3; Barbarian-(-9 by the numbers stabilizes!). Ranger-(-7) Hurk Brothers&Tigers: Surrender and driven off and the battle is over. Monk - - Shadowdancer/Rogue - - Not one tiger died or even came close. It was pathetic. It only goes to show that players don't always act logically or efficiently. Also, since the tigers basically only miss their attacks on a 1-3, auto hits were important. They were just lucky that the spice on the sand was that they didn't have to kill the tigers, just defeat the Hurk brothers. They clearly would have lost to the tigers. The guy playing the ranger really is like that in real life and our other 12th level barbarian player had the flu (that's big here in CO right now Encounter Numbers: Tigers (CR4ea)= EL10 + Hurk brothers (CR8ea)=EL11 So, that was considered an EL12 encounter. Should have been no problem for the 12th level group. jh
