The population was 3800.  However in September 2000 the island's volcano started misbehaving, forcing everyone to evacuate.Since Miyake-tou (tou being a suffix meaning island) is part of Tokyo prefecture, even though it is quite far, the residents of the island have all had to take up temporary residency in Tokyo.  A lot of them stand in public places asking for donations these days.Anyway, the volcano might be something interesting for your campaign, whether you want to start the campaign on the island and then have the volcano erupt, or have the kids already displaced and living in Tokyo, trying to find a magical way to bring the volcano back under control.</blockquote>
