Help keeping my PCs alive!

First Post
I'm running a campaign with a major theiving organization that the PCs have stumbled upon. They found the secret entrance, but that, unfortunately, sent them falling into the literal middle of the main hall, where an illegal fighting ring was being run.

After they fell into the main hall, they can see the nemesis they have been looking for, standing in the rear of the building. I don't, however, want to make the nemesis available for communication or killing just yet.

Here's my problem: I didn't expect them to come in this way and alert the ENTIRE PLACE! They're basically all huddled in the middle of the room with over a hundred of these black robed rogues staring at them in silence (as well as the nemesis). How do I get them out of here alive?

HELP!

You already have your answer-

the fight club!

They are made to fight if they want their freedom- of course, the guild has no intention of letting them out alive... so they will need to do their best to escape during the session.

Another idea is they take all their stuff, brand their faces- with the sign of the guild, and then dump them naked in the middle of the market. Your party will hate them more then any monster you throw at them.

Or- they could take all their stuff and demand if they want it back, then they must go rob some place that would be insane to try. Even if they succede, the guild just rats them out to the guards.

Hmmmm..... those were all great ideas! And you're right, that second suggestion would make the PCs more than a little aggrivated. I've never been a particularly vicious DM, but there's a first time for everything! I will definitely keep those in mind. Thanks for the info!

Any other suggestions out there?

I did it to a party once for being foolish in dealing with an overwhelming villian- and they hated the villians so badly they abandoned their current adventure to go after them.

It also taught them not to keep all their eggs in one basket. They began to leave extra supplies/weapons with trusted sources. Of course, that led to other situations, but life is never boring for an adventurer.

Good luck!

Have the guards bust in on them in a raid and arrest the PC's. All the real thieves get off scott free but the PC's have no alibi. They are now labeled as criminals and must prove thier innocance.

Same situation but its a rival gang that comes in with a raid and captures the PC's and then wants them to work with them.

Have them just wake up the next day (MInd flayer blast or something) and next thing they know they are wanted for murder of the very man they sought to kill.

Have them confront the BBEG to find that he is an imposter and is really a Captain of the Guard in a magical disguise.

Small elves with cookies rescue them and then make cookie shapes in their likeness. :D
