Steve the Positive-Thinking but Slightly Stoned Ghost Steve was a good guy, not the brightest bulb in the hardware section, but the kind of guy who'd be happy to come move boxes for you or help you carry your groceries to the car. Steve was driving in the rain in a midwest state -- an enormous summer storm, one of the ones that just comes up out of nowhere and makes it impossible ot see. Steve, not being in a hurry, pulled over, popped out the weed he had in his glove compartment, and lit up. He had an old Garfield compilation comic, some chocolate milk, and a bag of chips, and he was prepared to wait out the storm in style. Then he heard the sound of frantic honking over the pounding of the rain. Slightly buzzed and with that oogy chip-crunchy stuff on his fingers, Steve dashed outside to see that a pregnant woman had struck a power pole, and was trapped in her car by a downed cable that hissed and sparked in the rain. She was crying. She was scared. Steve, heroic dude, moved in to help. In retrospect, walking toward a downed power line in the rain is not the wisest idea. Only when the woman was free and safe did Steve realize that he had actually left this mortal coil well before reaching the car. He'd blacked out briefly, then shrugged it off and moved in to help the lady out and get her away from the power lines. Now that she was safe, though, Steve realized that, well, he was dearly departed. He'd torn the door off his hinges (having thought he was just in a weed-related adrenaline state at the time), and that was pretty awesome, but now Steve couldn't quite figure out how to touch things. The woman thanked him -- he wasn't invisible or anything, just glowing slightly -- and asked if he were an angel. To which Steve replied, "Uh... sure. What's your name?" "Mary," she replied. "Mary Jane Eckerson." "Well, I guess I'm the Angel of Mary-Jane, then," Steve said. And five minutes later, added, "Hey, that kinda works on two levels... I guess..."
