First off, I didn read to the end of the thrtead, so this may have already been adressed. Tolkien But I distinctly remember Gandalf being almost godlike compared to the other companions of the fellowship. I am not sure if there ever was a wizard in the Lord of the Ring books that was comparably as powerful as the companions. Wizards there were grteat and powerful and were usually not bothering to travel with the companions but rather go and do great "wizardy" things, and come back and save them. That said, I would make wizards highly powerful, and drop them as PC class. Goodkind I don't remember much of this, I read only one book, and that was a long time ago. But yes, again, most wizards and other magic using people seemed exceedingly powerful. The enchantress chick knew it was her destiny to be killed by the sword, once it changed by love and not hate. Sorry, it has been a long time since I read that one, I really should read it and the others again. Fairy Tale Wizards I seem to remember most fairy tale wizards being really really powerful compared to any one else. Also, fairy tale magic tends to be absolute, no saving throws. The only way to escape a spell is by extrodanary circumstances. Extreme emotion generally. That said, if you want fairy tale magic, which would be very very cool, it should be far more powerful than any "normal" hero. Good luck, and I'll be back later to read more of it, to see if I went and just repeated a bunch of points. -Sravoff
