Help Me Build an Interruptor

As a nearly exclusive DM I'm rather lost when I have to build myself a character to actually play, so please bear with me.

I'm considering a centered-breath monk who wants to use his shifting to good effect. I expect him to be close to the enemies from the get-go. Therefore I'm looking for ways to grant him extra attacks. The 3e feat Combat Reflexes would be a good start, but its 4e incarnation doesn't do the trick.

So the question is how to build such a character with

- more than one OAs per round and/or
- as many interrupts as possible.

Oh, the level scope will be 1-3 only. :(

Be a Wilden (for Wrath of the Destroyer), pick up Battle Awareness (fighter multiclass, need 13 str/wis) as one of your feats. Pick up Guardian Theme. That gives you three immediate action attacks. You'll need to be either Stone Fist or pick up melee training dexterity, so you have a decent basic attack.

For level 1-3, there isn't a whole lot you can do. At paragon, more options would open up through feats, PP's, items, etc.

As for opportunity attacks, you get one per turn, not one per round. I can't think of a way to get more than one per turn.

This is because there's no limit to how many opportunity actions you can take in a round... only in a single turn. Thus, there's no point having the feat as it was in 3rd edition.

Play a defender. Assault Swordmage probably fits this style the best. Monks don't get to use their Flurry of Blows off their tunr, and Centered Breath isn't best suited to opportunity attacks.

My money is on a knight or a cavalier, if you're into that kind of character concept. You will often get 4 attacks in one round if played well (and the DM doesn't try to screw you over). The thing to be aware of with those classes is that their "basic attack if enemy shifts or attacks an ally" and deals strength modifier damage on a miss is NOT an opportunity attack, it's an opportunity action.

I'm playing a 3rd level knight and my DPR (spread over several targets) is close to or surpasses the thief's! Plus I can shut down enemies attack using the hammer hands stance to push them 1 as part of the interrupt. DM hates that one. :)

Monks are not naturally very good interrupters. If you really want to mess with enemies, there are a few builds that have tons of interrupting options.

A prescient bard has an interrupt class feature to give an ally a defense boost and has powers like Arrow of Warning and Rhyme of the Blood-seeking Blade.

Shielding swordmages have an immediate interrupt to reduce damage dealt by the monster he's marked, but also has a number of fun interrupt attack powers.

Even warlords have powers like Powerful Warning that let them interrupt enemies. Monks... really don't.

Ah well, look I can't get my egg-producing wool-milk-sow. :.-(

I think I'll make up four characters and decide later which one to run .

Thanks for your contributions!

Well if you aren't set quite on which class to go as you can play a prescient bard, they have loads of ranged interrupts that help out the party as a whole. Monks can get some extra "attacks" with some of the style feats, like throw an extra knife for flurry of blows. There is no Karmic Strike, Robilar's Gambit stuff like in 3e unfortunately. Otherwise most of the better melee interrupters are defenders as opposed to strikers.
