You know what? Her job SHOULD be in jeopardy. Not because she is a bitch, or doesn't like D&D, or whatever. Because this law has been in place since, IIRC, 1984, and there is NO excuse whatsoever for her to be unaware of it. None. Any public school administrator needs to have a basic grasp of what actions they take are likely to violate the law, what is permissible, and so forth. Either this woman is incompetent, or she knows about the law and is hoping these punks won't have heard of it because she is Judge Teacherr. If the former, she can think of this as a free clue download (polite letter rather than lawsuit hammah). If the latter, well, hoping if you play nice the bullies will too never works; let the chips fall where they may. Yes, you have to worry about retaliation. That is why you approach the situation calmly and politely in asserting your legal rights. "Excuse me, but perhaps you didn't know that....We are asking that we be allowed to form this club because it is permitted by law...." Anything she does in retaliation is going to make her look very, very bad and will likely backfire. School districts aren't stupid--they don't LIKE lawsuits for harassment. About all she can do is to announce that NO clubs will be allowed at the school. I can't imagine either the principal or the other students' parents will like that much. In case I was unclear, by "contact the ACLU" I did not mean "...in order to sue her blind." The ACLU has lots of information on what your legal rights are and how to use them. Likely all it would take is a polite letter from a parent explaining the situation. You don't have to cry havoc and unleash the lawyers of war right off the bat here.
