Help me create an arcane trickster

Hi!

I'm about to start playing in a new campaign, and I was looking foward to playing an arcane trickster, however, he's only level 1 so far.

So, I ask you guys here at the boards for some help. Maybe you could tell me about other arcane trickster you played before, or any sort of hint to make my work easier.

Also, I would like to know a good level progression to make him a more balanced character along his way to the prestige class.

Good feats, skills and spells for this charcter would also be very apreciated!

I personally like Elven Arcane Tricksters, since they can use all bows. Halfling also works well.

With Practiced Spellcaster, Point Blank Shot, Presise Shot and Rapid Shot you have some decent feats and could then learn a few more to enhance spellcasting or whatever else seems appropriate. Improved Initiative is also a very good feat.

As for progression, how about this:

Getting to the additional Rogue levels later will allow you then to keep up with your most important skills (you won't be able to learn them all to high levels, so you must make some tough decisions there).

Important Skills would include: Disable Device, Hide, Listen, Move Silently, Search and Spot. Tumble is also good, as is Open Lock and Sleight of Hand. And you also want to learn Spellcraft, of course. In addition you need to fulfill the requirements for the class, naturally. If you still have points to spend, Concentration is always handy, or some Bluff, Gather Information, Sense Motive, etc.

If you can play an evil character there is a method for maximaizing your spell casting levels so that you only loose two (instead of three)...

This worked under 3.0, I'm not sure if it works under 3.5...

Hey, Thanee's progression is very close to my own arcane trickster's!

Most importantly, make sure you get your sneak attack up there as well as your lovely three ranged legerdermain based skills. My arcane trickster has three levels in rogue, 6 in wizard, 3 trickster and 2 loremaster. She benifits from a nice amount of skills and sneak from her rogue levels and still has a fairly powerful kick in the magic department, so its worked out well for me. Personally, I've had the most fun working out the roleplaying aspects of impromtu sneak attack, what a crazy ability!

Have fun with your aracane trickster, because, really, thats what arcane tricksters are for!
