Nothing specific, but one way to approach it perhaps... In my campaign, each of my PC's has a specific ability. I told them to think outside the box/rules (4e) - something they think would be cool that the rules don't really allow for and that I would work with them to make it possible. I have a point, I swear... So I had decided that in order to make the abilities (whatever they were going to be) different I would go with a theme, and so i chose "Time". Once we worked out their abilities, I considered the "Time" theme - Past, Present, Future, and for the 4th (four players) I went with 'Random-ish'. So, the Ranger, with his tie to the land could get a feel for an area's energy or emotion giving him a sense, or feel of it. In a forest clearing, he could tell you whether he felt danger going into it, or peace, etc. His theme was "The Present". The Warden, with his connection to the spirits of old would give receive visions... some clear, some abstract. I decided his theme would be "The Future" - his visions would give him a sense of things to come. Okay, the point... Consider themes and go from there. A quick/simple theme that comes to mind is "Elements". So, one amulet could be "Fire" focused, another "Earth", "Water" etc. With those themes in mind, determining powers can come a bit easier... "Earth" may have a power to help with defenses, etc etc. *Sorry for being so wordy... it's early, I have had my coffee, and I'm typing a mile a minute ;)
