Ok, I've got a character I've been playing for a little while, and I'd like to develop him a bit more in a specific direction, but I'm having a hard time. I'm using Mongoose' "Shamans" book for the core class, with a couple of modifications. I'm not above modifing other stuff if I need, the DM is pretty good about it. A few of the modifications have been in-game, as a result of things I've done... having too many spirits assosiated with me, for example. Anyhow. The character is an elven "shaman". He's not a typical elf... the only elves in the DMs world are a fairly "primative" race, sorta demi-native american/mongol/etc. A fairly primative tribal society, anyhow, with a reputation for not treating other races all that well. My character was always sort of an outsider in his clan, because he had dealing with the humans that came near their territory. He was an apprentice to the tribal shaman, and spent his "0th level" days doing that. He never exactly finished his training though, which is part of the problem. He was always sort of a neutral-ish type character, but very rash... tends to act in a flash of emotion rather than thinking about what he's doing. Resenting his masters implication that he wasn't ready to try a certain thing in training, he went and did it himself without the master knowing. He has been told before that he had the potential to become a very powerful shaman, and unfortunatly he let that go to his head. Anyhow, he delved just a bit too deep into the spirit world, and attracted the attention of an evil spirit. He didn't know it yet though... the spirit decided to watch him for a while. Anyhow, some time passes, and someone he considered one of his only friends betrayed him... messy story there. In a moment of blinding rage, he just randomly "reached" for a spirit to use, but all of his normal spirits (even his guardian spirit) refused him. The evil spirit he attracted, however, was glad to accept. He killed his friend in a moment of anger, in full view of the shaman of the tribe. Not only was the murder bad enough, but the shaman saw what spirit he was using. He was lucky to escape with his life. Although he was truely horrified for a while, that has changed... alot. The spirit never left him, you see, but instead has been sort of slowly corrupting him. It's not that he's evil -not yet, anyhow... he still has good in him, and has done a lot of good since he was exiled-, but the evil spirit has managed to completely blind him to the fact that messing with evil spirits might be a "bad thing". Or a lot of other things might be bad, for that matter. Basicly, he acts sorta neutral-good, because that's how he actualy is... (though his alignment is now neutral), but if he WERE to act evil (and he has a couple times), he honestly wouldn't see it as doing anything wrong. And since he never really finished his training, he was never taught WHY certain spirits should be avoided... to him, a spirit is basicly just a spirit... he doesn't really tend to look alot deeper. Anyhow, right now, he's true neutral. Level 4 STR 13 DEX 12 CON 10 INT 12 WIS 16 CHA 18 Has skill ranks in Healing, Perform (Rituals), Knowledge (Spirits), Diplomacy, and a couple others. Has Skill Focus (Rituals). Has spirits of the following domains: Spirit, War, Healing (Doesn't use Healing much anymore, that spirit will only help him now in times of dire need), Diabolic (From the BOVD... swapped from Evil when I got it... that's the evil spirit), Fire... Anyhow, right now, I'm seeing him continuing to progress further towards evil. His guardian spirit (Played by the DM, as are all my spirits) is strangely accepting of the situation, though his reasons for such are unknown. In fact, he has gone so far as to help him on a couple of occasions in dealing with evil spirits. And unless some outside force caused my character to change, I don't see it happening. And to make matters "worse", my character has fallen in love with a she-devil creature I met on the last adventure, who is none to subtle about shaping my character, though I only know a little bit about her true nature... she takes human form almost exclusivly. As a result, my character has slowly become more focused on dark spirits and demons. To the point of trying to summon more to himself. So I've been thinking of taking a prestige class to reflect the character development, but I can't really find one that fits what I want in any of the books I have. I've been thinking of either the Demonologist or the Possessed prestige classes from the Demonology book, and the DM has agreed to allow me to change the class enough that a divine caster can qualify instead of an arcane caster... But that's not QUITE what I'm looking for... the demonologist is a little too "Going into this with eyes open" style for what I'm looking for... my character doesn't really know what he's getting himself in for. Does anyone have any suggestions for a prestige class? Keep in mind, I can make minor alterations if needed, the DM says... for example, if it's a wizard-only one, I can modify the preqs to let me take it, but I can't invent my own prestige class. For that matter, does anyone have any other tips? I mean, tips of feats and stuff are good, but also for further fleshing out this guy in a RP sense? (BTW, level 4 means a touch more in our games, he's not as "young" as it might make him seem... we advance alot slower than the 3E standard)
