For an adventure: the giant ants (formians, perhaps) live at a location with a significant barrier separating it from civilization. Could be something as mundane as an ocean, or as esoteric as a featureless expanse of Astral Sea. The monsters are willing to do whatever it takes to get to the fertile lands of civilization, but they're not too bright, so they use the dead bodies of their conspecifics as a bridge. You might be able to slow them down by destroying the bridge, but you're just delaying the inevitable; to stop the danger, you have to defeat the queen.

For an encounter: You have a damaging floor (acid, electricity, poison, spikes, lava, whatever) and an encounter with a mess of minions. For the bruisers to get at you, they sacrifice the minions to make bridges.
