Help me in fleshing out a Sor/Ftr

Stone Angel

First Post
I recently started playing with a new group and created a forgotten realms character.

I am Sor 2/ Fighter 1 who wields a spiked chain studd. leather and did not take magic missle for a spell. He also has bloodline of fire for his first level feat. I am planning to emphasize the sorcerer aspect.

I was thinking of making him just a universal caster, but going along the lines of an artificer, treasure hunter type, also using his magic to help augment his combat ability.

What I would like from you is your ideas on class advancement, feat selection, skills, maybe PrC(other than Master of Chains not really my guy) and I have yet to select a familiar wanting something other than the norm but not to out there.

Our party consists of a half drow/half celestial, an Astral Deva a Monk, A human cleric of Tempus, and a halfling wizard. I want him to be special but he hardly has to shine the brightest. Thanks in advance

A lot will depend upon your stats and the prestige classes available to you.

Up front, I'll say this however: you need to decide whether you want to be a sorceror with one or two levels of fighter or a fighter with one or two levels of sorceror. It sounds like you prefer the latter option so where can we take things from there?

For classes, I would recommend either:
Ftr 1/Sor 4/Spellsword 4/Eldritch Knight 10 (if 3.5 prestige classes are allowed)
or
Ftr 1/Sor 6/Eldritch Knight 10 (If you don't care about spell failure).

Spells and feats will very heavily depend on whether you're playing 3.0 or 3.5

3.0: Spells: 1. Shield, True Strike, 2. Blindness/Deafness, bull's strength, cat's grace, etc; 3. Haste, Blink; 4. Polymorph Self, Stoneskin; 5. Energy Buffer; 6. Tenser's Transformation, Eyebite

3.5 spells: 1. Shield (although it's less essential than in 3.0), True Strike; 2. Alter Self, Blindness/Deafness, Burning Ray, Mirror Image; 3. Blink, Displacement; 4. Beneficial Polymorph, Stoneskin; 5. ? 6. Tenser's Transformation

In either 3.0 or 3.5, you'll want Power Attack, Cleave, Combat Reflexes, Expert Tactician, EWP: Spiked Chain, and Weapon Focus: spiked Chain.

In 3.5, you might also want Combat Expertise and Improved Trip (vastly improved--especially with your easier access to Large forms through Alter Self).

If you don't mind the roleplaying restriction, a multiclass to paladin is extremely effective. Due to your high charisma, it gives you a huge bonus to saves through Divine Grace. In addition, Divine Health and the ability to detect evil are also powerful.
