[QUOTE="Iron_Chef, post: 757622, member: 4530"] I am considering a spell that enables a caster to perform two spells in the same round like the Quicken Spell feat. This should be at least a 5th level spell, IMO, under normal circumstances. But what if we made it a corrupt spell (as in Book of Vile Darkness, using Call of Cthulhu type magic), which inflicts horrible penalties on the caster every time it is used? So first the spell drains you, then it kills you if overused... Help me set a level for it. IMPLORE THE DARK POWERS Transmutation [Evil] [see text] Level: Corrupt 3 Range: Personal Target: You Duration: 1 round Save: No Spell Resistance: No You tap into the negative energy embodied by the dark forces from beyond (evil gods and outsiders, or evil, destructive forces of nature). In exchange for aiding you, you offer them a portion of your spiritual essence to be consumed (which helps fuel their malignant power). These dark forces can be named specifically if the caster is of a religious nature or knowledgeable in the lore of the lower planes, otherwise, random entities selected by the DM may answer the call. Regardless of their exact origin or nature, they heed your cry and grant you a temporary surge of additional spellcasting power. Effect: During the round immediately following casting this spell, you may apply the Quicken Spell feat to any two spells you have memorized or are otherwise currently capable of casting. The spell slots required are not increased by this application. Corrupt Cost: Upon casting 2d6 temporary CON, plus 100 XP per level of each quickened spell cast. Casting this spell is an evil act and the caster will detect as an evil creature of his total character level or HD (regardless of alignment) for 24 hours after casting, though the law/chaos axis remains unchanged. Each time this spell is used, the caster must make a Will save (DC 20) or his alignment slips one step closer to evil. If the caster is already evil, then this has no effect. Using this spell more than once per day strikes the caster dead in a number of rounds equal to his CON modifier (1 round minimum; i.e.: just enough time to cast the quickened spells). The caster's soul is then devoured by the dark forces he dared to invoke. Such a character can never be raised or resurrected and is gone forever. Thus, the spell cannot be used more than twice in any 24 hour period. Using this spell more than once every six days may additionally subject the caster to a geas/quest on behalf of the dark powers invoked. To avoid such demands, the caster must succeed at a Wil save (DC 25). Geas/Quests given are in direct proportion to the caster's ability to complete them. The caster has the option of refusing the entity's geas/quest but if he does so, the spell fails and the entity will not answer the caster's call again. If the geas/quest is accepted, the spell cannot be cast again until the geas/quest is completed. Example geas/quests are forcing the caster to convert on the spot to the worship of the entity or entities invoked upon pain of death and eternal torment, acquisition or retrieval of an item or creature lost/desired by the entity to be sacrificed or delivered to the entity or its earthly agents within one lunar cycle (month), corruption of another (often specific) sentient being chosen by the entity into service of said entity, murder or other lengthy disposal of an enemy of the entity, conceive or father a child with a person of the entity's choice (often a priest/priestess of the entity)--giving up all rights of parentage to the other party, guard an area sacred to the entity for a specific period of time, etc. Special: Using this spell to implore dark forces of an air, chaotic, earth, fire, lawful or water origin adds the appropriate descriptor(s) to the spell type in addition to the corrupt and evil descriptors.
