Help me to help a friend

Wuxia

First Post
This is actually the sequel of another thread.

I'm trying to push a friend of mine to present his artwork to gaming companies around. I've already found him many an address for submissions and he's got a neat website:

http://www.sirbey.com/Version2/English/index.htm

I thought it could be more effective if, when e-mailing a company, he also provided direct links to specific illustrations. The question is, which ones? I've got favorites, of course, but my taste may not be everyone's. So, any advice/opinion would be very much appreciated!

Berandor, Kenjib, Horacio, thank you very much! :D

I'll forward your advice. And you're all good judges, being gamers!

Yes, smack your friend around and get him to submit to some companies. I know it's daunting, and there's the fear of rejection, but his material looks really good. I'd definitely prefer to see some of his work in books compared to some things I have seen.

Maybe forward him to some artist's websites that have FAQs about training and getting into the business. The first that comes to mind for me is for Tony DiTerrlizzi, of Planescape, Changeling, and MtG reknown.

I just checked and he's got a good section on 'Tips on Fantasy Illustration'.

As I said, push your friend (gently). We creative types tend to have those issues that keep us from pushing our material into the public eye. Good friends help us through it.

Ruined,

DiTerrlizzi is one of my favorite illustrators, above all his work on Planescape.

I have sent the address to my friend, and this one too:

As for pushing gently, I'd rather use the Big Kick method, but that's just because I like my friends with unrestrained enthusiasm.

Wow...I saw the early thread and the illustration you posted there, and I really liked it. His other artwork is equally as impressive.

I love his dragons. :D
