Help me understand metamagic feats when applied to Domain spells

I think this is a simple question, but I got kicked in the head yesterday playing soccer and I'm not 100% yet.

Suppose I have Divine Favor as a Domain spell. If I use persistent Spell on it (+4 levels), can I use my 4th level domain slot for it? I'm using Divine Favor as an example by the way. I don't really see a problem with this, except it expands your Domains spell selection.

Not exactly, your math is off -- a 1st level spell, +4 from metamagic, is FIFTH level.

But otherwise ... yes, you can use your 5th level domain slot for a Persistant-metamagicked version of a 1st level domain spell. :) As long as it is a domain spell going into that domain SLOT, the spells work the same as any OTHER sort of spell, WRT spell level, spell slot, metamagic, etc.

As has been said above - yep, you can fill higher level domain slots with metamagic-ed lower level domain spells.

So, say I have the Travel domain and I'm 20th level, I could in theory do:

1st: Expedious Retreat
2nd: Still (+1) Expedious Retreat
3rd: Silent (+1), Still (+1) Expedious Retreat
4th: Silent (+1), Still (+1), Extended (+1) Expedious Retreat
5th: Quickened (+4) Expedious Retreat
6th: Quickened (+4), Still (+1) Expedious Retreat
7th: Quickened (+4), Still (+1), Silent (+1) Expedious Retreat
8th: Quickened (+4), Still (+1), Silent (+1), Extended (+1) Expedious Retreat
9th: Persistant (+4), Quickened (+4) Expedious Retreat

Note, you can also just put a lower level domain spell in a higher level domain slot if you so choose. But this doesn't alter the spell at all - a 1st level spell in a 4th level slot still functions in all respects as a 1st level spell. To put it in a 4th level slot and make it function as a 4th level spell, you'd have to use the Heighten Spell metamagic. But there's nothing stopping you from doing:

1st: Expedious Retreat
2nd: Expedious Retreat
3rd: Expedious Retreat
4th: Expedious Retreat
5th: Expedious Retreat
6th: Expedious Retreat
7th: Expedious Retreat
8th: Expedious Retreat
9th: Expedious Retreat

Hope you feel better soon. Was your head to low or his foot to high? Or was it just that he hated you? ;)

You're running away a lot? ;)

But now I can imagine what Rincewind would do if he could but cast some spells.

Actually he's one of my best friends. But we play all out. I play goalkeeper, and this guy is way to quick moving the ball around. Which only gives me a good excuse for swiping strong at his legs. Which of course causes him to fall down. Which of course causes me to get hit in the head when he flays wildly in a desperate attempt to remain standing. Of course by this time neither one cares much about were the ball went off to. :D

Sounds fun! ;)

That really reminds me of my handball times. There you can do some serious shoving and get away with it. Of course, women's handball is just short of full contact kickboxing.... I remember where that girl was storming the enemy goal and one defender ran up behind her, grabbed her hair, and pulled her down. Was always fun to watch.. :D

I've seen women's ports go down the bloodthirsty path :) You should see my oler sister playing either the soccer or basketball. She dominates! About the only times I get hurt worse than in my "friendly" soccer games, is when girls ask me to teach them how to play. Down here in Chile, soccer is a male dominated sport, but lately (and thanks greatly to foreign female exchange students) women's soccer has taken hold incredibly fast. So we've been asked (my friends and I) to teach a lot of girls who've never played a contact sport before the finer points of "tactical" fouls. Well, they're fast learners :D By the end of the day I'm sporting bruises on both shins, someone stepped on my hand, and my nose is bleeding. After that, all of us are thankful to play a game against the league's bruisers.
