Today We're doing character generation for my next campaign (we rotate DMs)

I am going to have them all be the same race. They'll as a group have to decide upon one of the following..

Dwarf, Elf, Gnome, Golliath, or Halfling.

I want to give them some kind of "gift" like a masterwork weapon if theu pick dwarf.

any ideas would be appreciated :o

I'm cutting the xp penalty for unbalanced multiclassing to 10% and I'm seriously considering just dropping it altogether

So that I am clear: basically you are going to make all the players be the same Race but to compensate you are going to give them extra starting loot?

If so then let me suggest rather than giving them all the same extra thing give them something appropriate to their class of roughly equal value (say about 300gp). For warrior type classes a MW weapon, for magic users a scroll or potion, etc.

I would do away with the favored class all together, you are going to want a diverse party if they are all the same race and that will encourage them to choose different classes. If, however, you really want to reflect the standard cultures of the PHB and their tendency toward a certain class then give something simple like one extra skill point at every level they take the race's favored class.

Wel, the penalty is nly if tehy multiclass oddly without their favored class, right? I dont see a real reason to drop it, and actually can easily picture, say, an all dwarf party being fighter multiclasses, or an all elf party being wizard/somethings. I think itd be kinda cool, myself.

an all elven party of wizard multiclasses would be neat as pete in my book.

Oooh, I might have to think about the skill point... But yes, I'm going to give them something very special (but about the price of a MW weapon). They won't know about it until after they've picked class and race. I was actually thinking if there was a wizard she/he would have been given her spellbook from his/her master with a few extra spells (300gp worth). I'm wondering about a sorceror though...

Make them all halflings trying to get by in a world filled with 'big folk'. It should present some interesting encounters.
