(Help Needed) Character Background System

I'm devising a system for starting characters in which a family background is created for them. It will include a couple of generally minor bonuses (usually to skills and/or starting money), with drawbacks for ones that get better-than-average bonuses. I've come up with a few off the top of my head, but I'd love it if you can all help me build on what I've come up with. Good, archetypal fantasy world occupations. Don't worry about the bonuses, just give me some backgrounds.

Here's what I've got so far:
Merchant
Noble
Military
Farmer
Scholarly
Arcane
Religious
Criminal
Itinerant
Slave
Sailor

Thanks in advance!

And don't forget the combinations!

Criminal + Sailor = Pirate!
Religious + Itinerant = Missionary!
Military + Slave = Mameluke!
Noble + Arcane = Magocrat!
Scholarly + Criminal = Supervillain Mastermind!
Itinerant + Farmer = ... well, probably not the best idea.

Edit - you know, this is actually quite cool for coming up with NPC 'organisation' ideas for worldbuilding.

Rather than just having peasants working the fields, Farmer + Slave tells us that the kingdom Appledonia runs on serf labour. Criminal + Religious tells us that the church is corrupt, and Military + Noble tells us that the kingdom is ruled by force of arms... and that all the serfs working the fields probably come from former conquests.

Whereas in the neighbouring kingdom Bearia, Religious + Farmer tells us that we have a strong 'Amish' flavour to the common people; the king moves his capital each season to govern from one of the four main cities of the kingdom (Itinerant + Noble), accompanied by the renowned Bearian Battlemages (Arcane + Military).
