Help needed with a monk concept

First Post
I am thinking of making a monk character that uses the Up the Walls and Speed of Thought feats(and maybe others) from the XPH. Any thought on whether it would be wiser to stay a single-classed monk and use the Wild Talent feat to access those other feats or multiclass as a psychic warrior?

I am unsure which way would be better and need some other viewpoints. Thanks for your input.

Do you have Unearthed Arcana? I just made up another monk kit. Wild Talent as 1st-level bonus feat, then Psionic Fist at 2nd and I forget what at 6th.

Psychic Warrior is a very good class to multi with for a monk. They have some very useful powers that improve AC and give you other benefits that straight monk can't get. Access to psionic feats is incredibly nice, too. It's hard to go wrong with two levels of Psychic Warrior (both of which get a bonus feat) for a monk build that it's appropriate for. You don't have to keep taking Psychic Warrior levels to pick up psionic feats, most of which require just focus, not power points. And you can up your Concentration skill as a monk, since it's a class skill.

JQM: That is an interesting idea. I don't know if I could get my DM to go with it though.

SteelDraco: I probably will multiclass with Psychic Warrior. I like the overlap between both classes on ability scores and some skills. I will just have to be cautious of spending all my power points and then losing access to feats by not being able to refocus.

The problem of multiclassing with psywar is that it reduces your BAB by 1 and slows down your access to higher unarmed damage, neat monk abilities etc.

The benefit is "free" access to psionic feats and you can get some no-brainer great powers in even just a couple of levels (e.g. inertial armour +4 AC for 1 hour per level, augmentable). You get good synergy with Wis between the two classes.

Either way is neat.

A PsyWarrior combination is great when you start getting claws and bites as psionic powers. They add to your hand to hand effectiveness ... a bit of healing (vampire claws) etc.

Then there's the obvious things like Burst to get even more speed, healing abilities and so forth.

But achieving the right balance is the thing. I don't know about the 3.5 PsyWar but do they still get Weapon Spec as a bonus feat? If so it's just gravy for a monk - Weapon Spec (Hands).

Hmm. Especially the claws are not so great for a monk multiclass since you can either use them or your weakened unarmed damage progression and flurry... Weapon spec is available as power, thus weaker as well.

I'd rather get powers like Intertial Armor, Biofeedback and Psionics Lion Charge (charge and then full attack with flurry).
