HELP! Sony Nero DVD + /- R Rewritable Drive

Several years ago I accidently fried my CD burner. After talking to several folks I was convinced to buy a DVD / CD burner. The salesrep (oh how I hope he did not take me for a ride) strongly suggested this external burner.

I have 0 computer skills and I have just opened up the box and went oh **** as there are many cables and the such. I know by reading the instructions I should be okay but any hints or warnings or things I should be aware of before I attempt this?

Trial and error Mega. Trial and error. LOL Read the instructions, you'll do fine.
The best DVD burning utility that I know of is DVD Shrink. You can download it for free. Don't spend money on other ones. At least, that has been my experience.

Hmmmm, maybe you should take out the damaged burner? But really, shouldn't it give you a choice? Most burning programs list my regular cd-rom as an option, even though it's not a cd-r (I also have a dvd/cd-r combo, although internal). Is the new one recognized at all in Windows?

Nero should give you a choice. Find out what drive letter the new one has. It's hard to give advice on a message board.

It is good for Windows XP which I have.

It took me about 20 minites but I looked where to switch from one drive to another. Basically I understand what needs to be done but can not locate the area to adjust or there are additional links or areas I need to deal with.

Forgot to mention- I got it to work. I have made a classic rock CD, a Heavy Metal CD and a 80's pop CD. However, I can not seem to put in new music as of yet. I'll look into that next.
