Chapter 3 discussion starts on page 2 of the thread at post 44 Everything changes. My players have been having a ball in my current campaign but a nemesis they've been worrying about since he first betrayed them back in June is about to strike the party to their core. The party has just finished a good old fashioned dungeon crawl looking for a suit of armor. They are now 8th level on average (one 9th level) have arrived home to find the armies of the kingdom marshalled and the place has been invaded. One of the players would be King of Dalsundria, though he can't take the throne without proof because he is still believed to be dead and the ones who plotted to kill him have since ensarled the court. For 5 months they've tolerated his sister being on the throne as "regent." She (Nelaria) announced he as still alive and refused to become queen outright (fearing rightly that would be an immediate death sentance). She has thus far played her enemies against each other, but now the kingdom from the north, Milicsundria, has invaded again on the hopes of exploiting the political disunity of Dalsundria. The party is about to get caught up in the maelstrom. Last session ended with them talking with Nelaria about what to do with the current situation. Next session she will invite them to attend the Parlimentary meeting. In order to keep the players involved I'm going to type out the scene of the nobles and give each player a part to play -- this should work better than me reading out a long scene where I'm playing multiple characters. If the player's wish to aside to themselves up in the balcony box they may do so -- if they decide to interrupt then that's fine too since I will have the basic aims of each noble on the sheet so the others can react in character. Should be a fun diversion. At the end though Triel will appear before the parliment and challenge Nelaria openly and vehemently. Valsil blames her for weakening Dalsundria to the point of drawing invasion Triel claims, and for the survival of the country she must step down and abandon her childish dreams of her brothers return (Ironcially her brother will be in the balcony. There is a VERY good chance the party will hop in at this point, maybe even physically -- they really hate Triel's guts). Whether they hope in or not though Triel will reveal an artifact he is holding. Holding it out with some dramatic words he teleports away without taking it with him. When it hits the ground it shatters with a sickly green smoke turning all nearby to ash which holds for a moment then crumbles. I'd like some help coming up with a good line for him to say :D If I do it right I honestly expect some real tears on this one - the players have known this NPC for a longwhile and have fought long and hard. But all is not lost. The murder of Nelaria, whom Queen Tiliansia considers to be almost like a daughter, will move her to invade. When she learns that Nelaria's brother is still alive she will place her army at Nate's disposal. Also the meaning of the comet in the sky will be unveiled at last. The party will be pitched into the clutches of war. As the higher level characters begin to be tied down I'm going to have the group roll up new characters who are more directly involved in the war itself as foot soldiers. I'll begin to toggle between the two related games. Thoughts?
