Help with a crazy Psions AC

Nesh

First Post
Hey guys!

So yesterday was the 2nd session for my first PnP game. We had a blast when the players decided to start a bar fight and during the fighting one went and ransacked the innkeepers room :P

anyway during the fight downstairs our 2nd lvl Psion kineticist (quite a crazy guy) picked a fight then cast force shield and inertial armour. One is +4 AC and one is +4 Shield AC (which apparently dont stack with normal armour/shield but since he has none)

The wizard he got into a fight with decided to cast reduce person to humiliate him (giving him a +1 AC thank god the wizard only had 11int!)

Anyway Somehow he ended up having 24 AC at 2nd level using these two spells, his dex bonus and small size. Im not entirely sure how this worked (going to check with him before next session) so i decided to ask you guys if its possible to stack these two psion "spells" one being an armour AC and one a shield AC. have t double check with him because other than a pure 20 he couldnt be hit by the lvl3 town guards!!

thanks guys!

As long as the AC types are different, they stack. +4 shield bonus and +4 armor bonus stack with each other. They only don't stack when they're the same type (you can't have more than one armor bonus at a time).

Hmmm.

10 base +4 armor (inertial armor) +4 shield (force screen) +1 size (reduce person) +1 Dexterity (reduce person) = 20. He has an 18 Dexterity? That's pretty good. With three powers/spells and that high of a Dexterity, I would expect him to have a very good AC.

However, level 3 town guards shouldn't have that hard a time hitting him. They should have an attack bonus around +6, and they could use aid another and special attacks (such as grapple) to take him down pretty easily. His touch AC is only 16, after all.

Yup, it works just fine and it stacks with the other level 1 psion defense spell Defensive Precognition. And they eventually give more AC too if you pay more PsP. So a level 3 Halfling Psion with 18 Dex can pull 25 AC without even requiring the Reduce Person. The sickest AC I saw on a low-level psion would have to be the 33 (37 vs giants) on my friend's gnome psion level 6. Of course, since he wasn't proficient in full plate or tower shield, he wound up with a net -10 to hit...

Have a guard trip him - only needs to hit AC 16, and if he goes prone, they get +4 to hit him, and AoOs when he stands up.

Have a guard grapple him - again, only needs to hit AC 16, and once he's grappled he loses his Dex bonus to AC against all the other guards. Plus, with Small size and low Str, he's easy to hold on to!

wow ok interesting. Looks like i have to learn tactics for dealing with ths psychotic monster :P

He started using "slide"? something similarwhich lets him slide along the ground. Took a feat which bumps his speed to 55 then added to that he could do like 150ft/round. *zooms off before anyone can catch him again*

Trip and grapple. Definately gotta remember those two!

*goes to look up other crafty and sneaky ways to take donw this little bastage :P

Thanks Guys!!!

Just remember that while grapple really helps to hit the bugger, he doesn't have any somatic components, so he'll still be able to manifest any of his powers if he makes his Concentration check.

Chances are it's perfectly legit. He only used two, though, so it could be worse.

Consider:
Inertial Armor (+4 Armor bonus, augmentable)
Force Screen (+4 Shield bonus, augmentable)
Precognition, Defensive (+1 insight bonus to AC and saving throws, augmentable)
That would give +9 in bonuses; with a base of 10, that's 19. If he had a dex bonus of, say, +3, he could have 22. If the mage shrank him for +1 AC, that would make for 23.

At second, he could have used a fully augmented vigor for 10 temporary HP; further, if he was an Egoist, he could have used Thicken Skin to get another point of AC (natural armor).

Interestingly, Thicken Skin provides an Enhancement bonus to AC, not an Enhancement bonus to natural armor (like Barkskin).

Yup, its most true and definitely curious, and I would say that it is a mistake (since otherwise they've just invented a new way to get a stacking AC bonus). Wonder why they didn't fix it in the errata...But either way, I've houseruled it to give enhancement to Natural Armour.
