Inspired by 2nd Ed. priestly Spheres of Influence, I'm trying to create a scheme for 3E to collect the cleric spells into groups with an underlying theme. Right now I'm only working on 3E PHB spells, and I'm trying to keep to the cleric spell list. When it's finished, I want to have different spheres, granting a limited list of spells and one granted power in tune with the theme of the sphere. Right now, I've run into a little dead end where the Battle Sphere is concerned. I've got spells up to 4th level to put in it's list, but it ends after that. So I'm coming here with the hope of someone having a suggestion or two. :) The premises for this sphere are that the spells granted by it support large-scale battle as well as one-on-one combat. It doesn't grant protective spells, though, because those will get their own Protection Sphere, and it doesn't grant buff spells either, because most of them will go into a Retribution or Strength Sphere. It grants spells that give a bonus on attacks, saves, or forces a malus on an opponent. It also buffs up your weapons and armor. Sprinkled in are those spells that support groups. Take a look, and see if you can find something fitting from levels 5th - 9th. Battle Granted Power: Free Martial Weapon Proficiency and Weapon Focus with the deity’s preferred weapon or free Medium Armor Proficiency. Battle Sphere Spells: Bane (1st) Bless (1st) Divine Favor (1st) Magic Stone (1st) Magic Weapon (1st) Aid (2nd) Spiritual Weapon (2nd) Magic Vestment (3rd) Prayer (3rd) Freedom of Movement (4th) Greater Magic Weapon (4th) Status (4th) Heh, maybe I should add that the priest coming out of this all will look like his 2nd Ed. counterpart, with Major and Minor access to the spheres of his deity, and gaining 2 granted powers at 1st and one more every fourth level.
