Help with a Racing Game!

OK, wasn't sure where to put this, so I figured start it in General, it can always be moved.

I've been reading Initial D. It's a racing manga, about rally racing. Very good stuff.

I want to run a racing game. Unfortunately, I know little about cars(the technical details are NOT my thing); I'd be perfectly content with going fast, whippin around hairpin turns, and having fun rivalries with other racers. However, I've got one player who's a car nut and I've already discussed with him, he wants to be able to fully trick out his car.

Does anybody who knows about cars(and I mean really knows; I'm not talking about slapping on a spoiler and swearing to the High Heavens that it ups your Horsepower) have any way they could help me?

I don't know anything about cars, but I can point you towards an issue of Dungeon that has a d20 racing game in it (in the Polyhedron side, naturally): Dungeon #93/Polyhedron #152. The game was called "Thunderball Rall."

Amazingly this is a subject I know lots about. I spent a year or so helping a racing team as a pit monkey. I'm also a HUGE fan of racing, computer racing sims, etc. I got lots of technical knowledge about simulating racing (heck I beta tested one of the first real good computer racing games "Indy Car Racing" by Papyrus Publishing).

Of course racing is not all about the car, its about the driver, the preparation, the track conditions, and lastly the pit crew. If you have a failure on any of these then you can't win. Obviously you will not want that much level of detail

So feel free to contact me, I'll help with whatever I can.

BTW, a spoiler will not increase horsepower, but if it is designed right, it will yeild enough downforce to increase handling at certain speeds

Out of curiousity, what type of racing are you looking at:

Street, Off-road, Tracks, etc.

I read and watched the Initial D anime, so if you want something along those lines, I imagine you are talking about street racing.

Yeah, I'm talking Street Racing, but Street Racing as shown in Initial D; not the little dragraces they do in the US now.

Hands, I know that, but I've had morons SWEAR to me, that a spoiler increases their horsepower. I now know what causes Brain Aneurysms.
