Help with News Ticker and Java

To combat my problems with the News Ticker, there was a suggestion to get the latest Java from Sun. My current Java plug-in's "About" says: Java 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition 1.4.0_01-ea Default Machine version.

My problem is that I can't tell what the latest version of Java is, which one I should get, or what -- Sun's page looks like a foreign language to me.

Could someone be kind enough to provide a link to the version I should get, or tell me if the version I currently have is the newest or not and maybe its some other bug?

If it is needed, my operating system is Win98SE.

Thanks to any that respond.

Ok, this may be a silly question. But how do you turn it off? Simply going to my User CP I'm not seeing any option to turn off the News Ticker. I'm probably just looking past it, but...it really is not playing nice with my brousers.

Bottom, right side. It's not an on off option, but you click on it and it offers 4 options. On the left you'll see somethin like style setting. The option is to the far right of that.

actually, you have to make sure you're in the User Options section of your UserCP.

Call me dense, but I'm not finding it. I went to the "Edit Options" and "Edit Profile" screens and there's nothing on styles. Where is this "User Options" screen?

Edit: nevermind, found it. Page wasn't refreshed.

(sigh)

Go to "user cp" go to "Edit Options", second to last option is a dropdown menu, called Style Sheet I think. You can choose options in that amongst which is to turn off the ticker.

Edit : But now I see you found it. :)
