From a warm home with food, a case of Sprite I work at, in my comfy studio, I can only imagine what two groups of hereos in New Orleans went through. The staff of Charity Hospital in NO lasted out a week, with a flooded morgue and no power. They realized they were on their own. No sleep. No respite accept in eachother, they cared for low income patients stranded in the city. They hustled the choppers till their charges were gone, evacatuated to safety and care in a better situation. I believe this staff deserve honors for service above and beyond the call of duty. Also, the outnumbered police departement, whose station came under attack by what I think were vengefull gang members, deserve official honors as well. They had not much but limited ammo, some country music, and a defended position they called Fort Apache. A night of hell they endured when they came under attack. Their chief wasn't too busy doing news interviews and he fought alongside his men and women. Heroes one and all. These are the big stories of heroism, maybe others can post stories of other exceptional citizens who were essentially abandoned for 5 days in the city.
