The only reason to do this with a hit series is because their option on pick-ups for subsquent years was not at a fixed rate for all of those actors. In other words - they can't AFFORD to bring some of these people back. Or, this is an announcement designed to intimidate actors during contract negotiations (my bet). You don't create new hit series and then throw the conneciton with the viewer to their fave characters on the garbage pile. That is ratings suicide. Many of these characters will be back. Don't doubt that for a moment. At the same time, there is SOME utility in introducing new characters who are discovering their powers, as the discovery stage seems to be the stage most entertaining to viewers. It's pretty hard to connect with a Peter Petrelli who can do a bazillion things. He's soon ... no longer quite human - or certainly out of the range of the viewer's experience. But it's easier to identify with any hero discovering their powers and reacting with astonishment. Anyways - let me officially DOUBT the ultimate veractity of this article. I think it is as much to do with money and contrct negotiations as it is with any real solid plans to restart the show. That Volume 1, Volume 2 crap is just sophistry. This is NBC and this is about $$$$ and ratings. Those lines can be charted and appear on a graph. Where they intersect to create the most profit is a better indication of wht we will see see in season 2 come September of 2007 - never mind what Tim Kring says now. A new main plt which includes some new characters and villains? Sure thing. But a restart with a complete new set of characters? Nope. No way. Won't happen.
