Heroes of High Favor

Dragonhelm

Knight of Solamnia
I was wondering if anyone had the Heroes of High Favor series by Bad Axe Games. In particular, I'm interested in how the Halfling and Gnome books are, but I'd like to hear about the whole series.

Were there plans to compile the series?

Thanks in advance.

I've got the books about Dwarves, Elves and Half-Orcs, but I've never seen the others. No, they don't cover demi-Elves. The books are nice, but pretty basic. And they are old, relatively. I've always thought the series was dead, with no updates in the pipeline, but I could be wrong. The ones I have are 3.0, from around 2002. Decent as far as player splat books go, but completely supplanted by later books by other publishers, including WotC.

I've got the elves one in print and the elf, half-orc, and dwarf ones in pdf.

Each one has favored class + every other class multiclass prcs. The spellcasting ones are fairly weak, designed to be balanced against the multiclass combo instead of against a comparable level character. The classes are generally good flavor and pretty good outside of the caster power level issue.

Decent art.

Each book also has feats, a (very short) section on the race, and a section on a race appropriate themed crunch (cheap shoddy weapons for half-orcs, improved quality crafted weapons for dwarves, spells and ley line magic for elves).

In order of appearance, we did:

DWARVES
HALF ORCS
ELVES
HALFLINGS

GNOMES was never released. Much of the work I did for Gnomes had to be scrapped when 3.5 "changed" them, by which point, also, demand for d20 products had been seriously depressed. It was a double whammy for the Gnomes, sorry to say.

Not coincidentally that release list pretty much reflects my own interest in the races (in descending order). Of course as most folks who know me already know, I was only ever writing stuff that interested me, anyway. A little money on the side was nice, but breaking even was all that really mattered. With Gnomes, it was looking like even breaking even would be tough.

However, I can guarantee you that if I revisit Heroes of High Favor for 4th edition, I'll do things a little differently, to include giving the Gnomes their due.

I'm happy to hear you enjoyed working on the books so much. :)

I just checked Drivethrurpg.com. They have the books on Elves, Dwarves, and Half-Orcs available for sale as a .pdf. Is the book on Halflings also going to be made available in that format eventually?
