I see it as a kind of Privateer empower and chartered not by the state but the church to rob rivals faiths to enrich they're own as well as to steal secrets. Alternately they could have a double priest as is featured in many realmsian novels which could focus on a class or build that infiltrates the enemy faiths by decieving not just church officials but through the power of thier God decieving the enemy god as well into granting them power. It could have different roles depending on the characters cover.</blockquote>
