Message: <blockquote data-quote="Mistwell" data-source="post: 4057975" data-attributes="member: 2525">Fair enough.Why I like Chuck:1) I like the female lead (Australian actress Yvonne Strahovski).  At first I didn't think that was the case, but with time she's become very likable.  She can handle hand to hand combat in a believable enough fashion that her character is reminiscent of Jennifer Gardner's character from Alias (who I also liked).  Her fondness for Chuck feels believable to me, and the complexity of her prior relationships with Chuck's former roomate ads an interesting element to the plots.  I think she has some good acting chops.2) I like Adam Baldwin, and have since Firefly.  His character is very entertaining on this show, in a similar way to his character on Firefly/Serenity.  3) I like the mcguffin.  Sure, it's not believable.  But I still find it interesting and fun.  That Chuck can flash on pretty much anything at any time is a new mechanic (to me).  Sort of like the Akashic memory, in a weird way.4) I like that it isn't overly episodic.  You can miss an episode and it doesn't completely mess with the show, much like the first 5 years or so of Stargate SG-1.  I don't like the overly episodic nature of genre shows these days, and it's refreshing that Chuck is not a slave to it like so many other shows seem to be lately.5) I like that they actually pay attention to the fact that the Hero has a real, actual home life with it's own complexity and importance.  Saving the world is all well and good, but characters seem a lot more believable to me when the "normal" part of life isn't conveniently cut out.  The Hero has friendships, a boss, a job, a family, a love life, rent, a healthy worry for his own health, and hobbies.</blockquote>
