Empathy has to do with emotions, being able to understand how another person feels (in spite of that Star Trek episode "The Empath" that made it seem like the ability to absorb someone else's injury was "empathy"). I'd describe Peter's power as a kind of mimicry.  I don't think Sylar's power works the same as Peter's, either. He's not stupid. He should have been able to figure out that he doesn't have to kill people to obtain their abilties, if his powers do work the same as Peter's. Although, I suppose it's possible that he just kills because he wants to be the only one with those powers. I don't think they've ever come right out and said specifically what Sylar does with the brains, either. Maybe he's keeping them in jars somewhere and rechargning himself off them periodically. I find it curious that Hiro refers to his own power as being able to "stop time", when it's obvious that he can do more than just stop time. Otherwise how did he get from Tokyo to New York by just "stopping time"?</blockquote>
