I had a chance to do a demo at GenCon. My partner and I got completely schooled due to some bad dice rolls, but everybody had a good time. It's not a really technical game, like say 40k, but it's easy to get into and has solid enough play. People must have liked it; every time I turned around at GenCon I saw someone walking with one of the starter boxes.

My family loves it.
We did the demo of it at GenCon and I purchased it on a Walmart shelf last week.
It is easy to play and even my soon to be six year old caught on and played it.
You set up warbands using a point system and every player tries to wipe out all the others or there also other senarios such as capture the flag.
We just have the master set. There are 3 other warband kits available (saw them at the con but not in a store yet) but I don't know if we want/need them yet.
Next year 3 more sets and extra tiles are coming out FYI.
The rules are easy. We actually played the "advanced" set of rules right out of the box rather than the get started rules.
Takes about 45-60 minutes to play a game though.
The only downfall is there are a lot of little items to keep track of like counters, hp counters, disks and lots of dice. At least for a six year old there are a lot of items.
I recommend it.

It's a tad silly, but FUN. The minis are relatively well painted, and the battle system comes in simple and advanced versions. I have a few minor qualms with a few of the minis being less valuable without the expansions (such as the dino-rider orc boosting other orcs...of which there are none in the basic set), but otherwise think it's swell.

The system is clearly designed as a gateway, with a basic system that it is easy for even younger gamers to comprehend, but an increased level of difficulty and strategy for the advanced game. This is the kind of game you use to get younger players interested and accustomed to the gaming, in general. It's somewhat simplfied, but plays fast and easy. The map pieces are top-notch, too.

Here's what they say about it at Boardgamegeek.com

Dextra and the Gelflings played it at GenCon this year and loved it, and got a chance to talk to the designer for quite a while (they were in the dealer room early on Thursday which meant that there was no time demands on the people running the demos yet).

They loved it, and will probably be picking it up soon at a store near us. Although I figure they will probably wait until my birthday or something, and pick both it and RISK Godstorm up.

I highly recommend this game. I picked it up at Walmart a couple weeks ago on a whim. (I'm a sucker for a game with minis!) I played it and loved it. The dice mechanic works just like the old Hero Quest game from Milton Bradley, where you roll a certain amount of attack dice and certain amount of defense dice to counter attacks. The advanced game adds a slight level of complexity to the game, but not so much that it's hard to grasp. No matter want version of the rules you play, it's a blast.

Check out www.heroscape.net to find all sorts of new units converted from other games like D&D minis (much of those are my own conversions), Star Wars Epic Duels, Star Wars minis, Warhammer 40K and so on.

Adios,
Kane

I bought this at GenCon after watching the demo area for awhile -- too many cool bits in one box to pass up, and it's expandable but not collectible? Sign me up.

My opinion on it is: "Damn, I wish I knew someone who wanted to play this game!" ;)
