10th level is not an easy place to start playing! You will have may unintuitive powers at your disposal (teleporation and flight ranking Most Useful and Hardest to Balance). You will face foes who are truely powerful (dragons and demons). Are you joining a group of experienced gamers, or starting in a new group of inexperienced gamers? If the former, go have fun -- your fellow gamers will show you the ropes. If the latter, you might consider starting the group at lower level (say, 2 or 3) until you all have more experience with the mechanics. Anyway, some equipment to consider: Heavy Crossbow +1 Holy: 18,900 GP. Each bolt does 1d8+3+2d6 to Evil creatures. Very nice when your magic isn't effective. Bracers of Armor +3: 9,000 GP. Note, though, that this won't stack with the spell Mage Armor. In my opinion, the spell is better. Cloak of Charisma +4: 16,000 GP. Gives you a couple more spells and makes your spells harder to resist. Ring of Protection +2: 8,000 GP. Heward's Handy Haversack: 2,000 GP. Better than a Bag of Holding, since you get exactly what you want without searching. Glove of Storing: 2,200 GP. A very nice place to keep your crossbow ;) Robe of Useful Items: 7,000 GP. Nice if you're going to come up against unexpected non-combat situations. Enjoy D&D! -- Nifft
