Hide and Seek; anyone seen it?

So, reviews for this new movie are mixed. Some reviewers have loved it, others found it cliche, and the plot twist ridiculous. One even went so far as to ask for the Village's twist back again, saying all was forgiven.

Anyone else seen this? I'm a big fan of suitably creepy movies, and this looked like it fit the bill.

Saw it in an early screening a couple months back. Really didn't like it. The performances were all very good, the story was fairly trite, and the piece as a whole- was really bad. I knew immediately when I saw the old "cat jumping out of the closet" scare that I was not going to like the movie. It wasn't anything ground-breaking or new- just used the same cliche horror conventions. It moved very slowly as well.

But, like I said, good performances. They just couldn't cover for the failings of the plot and pacing.

If you're looking for creepy, I'd look somewhere else. The trailers really don't give you a good idea as to the actual content of the movie. (IE, if I hadn't already seen it, I'd be tempted by the trailers myself. As it is, I wish I had my money back... from a free screening.)

Well, I usually don't mix well with horror movies (Horror Movie + Light Sleeper = Nightmares) but I'd like to see the movie for the actors\actresses performances (plus I just need to see more movies), so if it's pretty light on the plot\wierd, then I might have to go see it.

I've heard stories (on morning radio shows, so I can't really back them up) that DeNiro was so unhappy with the direction and pacing and whatnot that he actually walked out of the premiere screening. To which I can only say....ouch.

I concurr wholeheartedly. While there were good performances, by Dakota Fanning especially, I thought the movie was slow and ultimately boring. The plot was cliched, the scares were gimmicky, and the movie was generally unsatisfying. I think my first words after the film were, "Well, crap."
