Hiring a ritual spellcaster

Whimsical

Suppose you wanted to hire an NPC to cast Transfer Enchantment for you. How much would this cost?

I didn't see this option listed in the Player's Handbook or the Dungeon Master's Guide.

Are there any rules about hiring someone to cast a ritual for you?

If not, how have you handled this situation in your game?

In the RPGA's LFR (Living Forgotten Realms) it is listed as component cost + 20%. This is not a hard and fast rule for normal play, but it could be used as a guideline.

The cost to have a ritual done for you is the cost of the ritual book itself.

It's called a scroll.
But you may not have the requisite skill to effectively cast the ritual, even through a scroll, if the ritual in question calls for a skill check.
Component cost +20% for ten minute rituals, +50% for hour long rituals.
Where is that from? In the RPGA Character Creation Guide v1.9, under the NPC Ritual Casting heading, it states
If a non-player character (NPC) is available and has the resources (determined by the DM and/or the adventure) to RPGA Character Creation Guide Living Forgotten Realms Page 11 cast a ritual for the group or an individual within the group, the group (or that individual character) pays the cost of the ritual casting. This cost is equal to the component cost plus 20%.
That is the text in full, the very next bit of text on the page is the column heading for Character Death. Nowhere is a time constraint mentioned.

You never need to be trained in the skill listed for the ritual. But if you are not trained in it, any required skill checks might be harder for you to make. But that usually doesn't mean the ritual fails - it just means it provides you with less benefit.

Using a scroll also removes the need to have the Ritual Mastery feat or the necessary level.

Which is why I said, to 'effectively' cast the ritual. There are many times where the lower skill checks just won't cut it for what you want/need done; especially in the case of cure disease - which could easily result in death on results of 9 or less [and the level of the disease is a penalty to the Heal skill check]!

But imagine how hilarious this would be! Totally worth it!

A "Well, there's good news and there's bad news..."

B "What's the bad news?"

A "Well... I screwed up my skill roll and accidentally killed him."

B "Gah! You were healing him! How did you kill him? Nevermind... what the good news?"

A "Raise dead doesn't need a skill check."
