Hit Locations

Yes, and it works for Percentile as well as D20 systems, with a little tweaking... On either, you look at the second digit (if any) of the hit.

1 = Head/Neck
2 = Chest/Back
3 = Abdomen/Lower back
4 = Groin/Buttocks
5 = Left arm
6 = Right Arm
7 = Left thigh
8 = Right thigh
9 = Left leg
0 = Right leg

I don't break it down any further than that. Note that, in most cases, odd numbers are on the left side of the body, even on the right (if that's of any importance to you). I usually ignore these rules, unless (for instance) an unarmored Mage-type is wearing a helm(et), providing only his head with protection...

I remember a very good drawing from Arnie Swekel at an exhibition in Germany last year. Hit locations are determined with a d% (e.g. fingers at the left hand, right knee, nose,...).

Hmm, IIRC, a 96 was for a VERY critical location ;)

My personal table
Roll 2.....Area hit
01-02...“Not-so-funny-places to be hit” (Table 2.5)
03......Shield leg
04......Sword leg
05-06...Shield arm
07-08...Sword arm
09-13...Belly
14-17...Breast
18......Neck
19-20...Head

The reason for this table was, first, I wanted to give modifications by size, combatants try to hit special body-parts of their oponents (that is why the legs are rather less represented than they should be according to their size).

The second table I use is:
01...one toe left
02...one toe right
03...left foot
04...right foot
05...left knee
06...right knee
07...groin
08...left hand
09...right hand
10...one finger left
11...one finger right
12...one thump
13...left elbow
14...right elbow
15...face (scar)
16...nose
17...left ear
18...right ear
19...left eye
20...right eye

which is just to scare my players.

You could adapt the battletech hit locations, which is something similiar to:

1,2 - Left Arm
3,4 - Right Arm
5,6,7 - Center Torso
8 - Left Side Torso
9 - Right Side Torso
10 - Left Leg
11 - Right Leg
12 - Head

I would only use them for critical hits, and have them affect skills only.

thanks for the suggestions, I am hoping to design one soon with the added benefit that if there is a critical hit then not only to determine the location hit but also the consequences of the shot. I think it would be more useful in a obviously more gritty game and not a truly high magic game.

You would think that if you got hit in the head you would be more dizzy from a possible concusion than a hit to the arm, so which skills would be possibly effect from these seperate hits?
