Not to derail the thread, but I also personally think that different races should get an additional hit dice based on what race they are at first level, just to make race count a bit more to your character. For example, halflings, kobolds, goblins and gnomes would get a 1d6. Humans, Elves, Half-Elves, Tieflings, Hobgoblins and the like would get 1d8. Dwarves, Mul, and Half-Orcs, get 1d10, while Goliaths, Orcs, Firbolg, and Bugbears would get a 1d12 (continued for every race). This would probably have to come with 6e/5.5e, though.</blockquote>
