Hit point recovery after Con damage restored

OK, dumb question I should've worked out by now:

When a creature's Con is restored after being damaged or drained, does the creature also recover the hit points lost with the Con damage or drain?

No reason for them not to. The hit points weren't lost to a seperate injury. They dropped because you no longer had the Con that granted them in the first place. When the Con comes back, the HP come back.

Yes. Those points were not actually damage. Technically they are a change to the character's "maximum hit points", which goes up and down in step with the Constitution.

Yes, just as much as your current hit points get lowered when Con damage/drain happens, they should raise again when Con goes up again.

Because Constitution loss and hit point damage can get confusing, I have my players track "maximum hit points" and "damage taken" separately. At any given time, they just subtract the latter from the former and get their current hit points.

This is only really helpful or necessary when there's lots of Con damage or drain going on, but when that's the case, it makes it easier for them to understand what's going on ... especially those who aren't experts in the rules.
