Visually the game is much better than previous installments. lara recieves the biggest boost, going from 500 polygons to 5000, which actually makes her almost look like a *normal* woman. :) This does have its drawback though. Several times I have run into spots where the game seriously lags because of her polygon count, rain effects, and backgrounds. So far this has not affected the game play, but I imagine it could. Gameplay is similar to before, though a stealth mode has been added, and some old moves like the hop back are gone. The stealth mode has limited usage from what I've seen, but is good for checking things out before running headling to your death. There is a new *story* aspect to the agme, where you can engage characters in doalouge, and have choices to make. Playing around with this some you find that often it really doesn;t matter what you say, the result is nearly the same. One more thing that was added is an upgrade system, and this is where my major beef is. Lara can no longer hang indefinatly from ledges and such, she now grows tired and can fall to her death. Likewise, while she can burst down doors, some are to strong for her. The game has a system where by performing certain actions she increases her strength. So she slowly is able to jump further, push larger objects, burst stronger doors, hold her grip longer and other physical activities. The problem I have found is that you may pass a level without performing the necessary upgrade, meaning at the next level you could very well be stuck, as there is not always a workaround for the next obstacle. That problem might be irrelevant though. I know people have finished the game, but I ran into a point where I could not break down a necessary door. I assumed I had missed an upgrade, so i went, bought a guide, and checked myself. I have not. So, I started over, taking a slightly different path to see if the alternative upgrade points will solve the issue. I have to hope that it has. It is a good game, but if this upgrade problem is not just me, it might not be worth buying. makes me wish I had waited for PC, then there might be a patch if it is in software.
