Pathfinder 1E Hmm Pathfinder.

I am sure something like this has been posted elsewhere, and for that I apologize, but as all internet users, I'm somewhat inpatient and want things now. Excuse me for that.

Anyways, I've played D&D since 2E (actually @ AD&D) yet I fell in love with it during 2E. Since 4E came out, we bought the books, tried it, and then well all cried as we went back to 3.5.

Pathfinder, I've seen the SRD for it, and the Summoner looks amazing (a real Summoner, vs a Malconvoker or such). The fighter seems to be beefed up, as well as the other melee classes in comparison to the caster classes. How are the Gish builds though? All the splat books? Who is this Jason guy?

I'm thinking about going into Pathfinder, but I'm just curious, as a fan of 3.5, what has changed, what has stuck? Is it the same 'feel' but better?

Oh yeah. Really, all the classes have received significant upgrades. The melee and skill based classes have gained a respectable amount of power, and the spellcasters have gained some much-needed longevity.

How are the Gish builds though?

All of the core Gish Prestige Classes gain new powers to represent synergy between their talents. Trying to multiclass without these specialized PrCs still sucks.

dnd 3.5e - Differences between D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder - Role-playing Games - Stack Exchange

The big things are that all standard classes and races have received upgrades, item crafting and powerful magic no longer cost XP, and the rules for grappling and other combat maneuvers have been drastically simplified.

There is a deliberate design emphasis on using variant class features over Prestige Classes.

I presume you mean Jason Buhlman? He's the lead designer for Pathfinder. He did work on some 3.5 stuff, too -- he created the Factotum class in Dungeonscape, for one.

Nice guy. Creative.

Aw shucks.

I do what I can. I worked on about half a dozen 3.5 books and was the managing editor for Dragon before becoming the Lead Designer of the Pathfinder RPG.

Anyway, that's who I am.

Ah, Jason Bulman. A very reasonable and helpful man. When Living Pathfinder was in its infantcy, We contacted him for the legalities of somethings and he directed us to whome we needed to speak with. that was the exact person( or was it a department, can't remember from a year ago!) that we needed to ask our questions of.

True. A glaring example are Rangers and Paladins. New paladin is awesome. Barbarians are far more fun to build. Even better, with the proper class and feat tree, far more weapons and fighting styles are viable (try to snipe with a crossbow or go shield&weapon in 3.5, if you dare).

Your first Splatbook will be the Advanced Player's guide. You will be surprised by the amount of stuff you will find there.

You can download the Magus class playtest as said above. It's the new Gish-in-a-can. Combines nicely utilities, blasting and martial attacks. his class features combine combat and spellcasting, with a good action economy.
