Yes, players rarely enjoy being the hobbits watching Gandalf doing all the cool stuff. I'd suggest a 1st level NPC accompanying, not 4th.

Johnathan, now that Dungeon is no more, where shall we go to get our Challenge of Champions fix? Have you looked at publishing any adventures (including non-CoC ones) with other publishers?

At this point, I honestly have no idea. I haven't looked into it a whole lot, but I'll be looking to see what Paizo's GameMastery line looks like - there may be room for me over there. Right now, I'm kind of in the dark, desperately trying to get my bullseye lantern lit.

Johnathan, in this post here Erik Mona talked about the possibility of releasing an annual collection of 30 or so "Dungeon Magazine"-type adventures. Maybe that could be an option as well.
