Homebrew Campaign Setting

That's utterly wonderful, I hope you're having a wonderful time with it. I have downloaded it and shall have a jolly time cannibalising bits at a future date.

. . . I see what you mean about formatting issues. Having struggled with creating a professional-looking product using Word myself, I feel your pain.

That said: wow. While I feel that much of what's in your book is unnecessary (since it's just copied from the SRD and is therefore a little redundant for anyone who has the core rulebooks), your overall presentation, ideas, and the new stuff is awesome. I love your Economy section (though much of the Banking seems a little modern for the setting as described) and the way you added detail to characters' backgrounds and histories. I also think the NPC Boons section is brilliant, and you can believe I'm swiping that right away. Stuff for naval combat and detailed logistics for large-scale warfare are also awesome additions to the game.

The fact that you commissioned some badass art from Wayne Reynolds is, well, badass. And I love seeing the sketch behind the cover image.

The adventure seems little uneven to me (the heroes who drove off the first orc raid seem to have just disappeared afterwards, for example). I also worry that the riddle, while both cool and elementary, might prove a stumbling block for many groups. I personally gave up on stuff like that years ago in my campaigns, because no matter how simple I thought the riddle was, nobody ever got the answer right and it led to a lot of frustration on the part of the players. All that said, it's a pretty cool conan-y adventure.

Thank you for sharing this one with us.

EDIT: the earlier heroes fled and you addressed this in the module. I just missed it the first time, sorry.

Thanks for the feedback! And yes, definitely I'm a terrible, terrible layout artist. I agree about the SRD. I sort of fell into it. At first I was like, well, I have to change the equipment section. Then I was like, well, I also have to edit the cost of spell components. Then I was like, all right, might as well include as much as possible and just be able to present this to my players (especially new players) as a complete package.

And you're right -- the banking and corporate financing is modeled after the system used during the Renaissance, which is very at odds with the clearly antiquity-inspired setting. But I love the machinations of the Medici too much (the Keln Isles is also a place out of time, but hey, it's fantasy!).

Full disclosure (pretty sure most of this is cited in there, but since you mentioned it): Glad you like the economy and other bits! Credit where credit is due -- the Economy section is a mix of rules from Adventurer, Conqueror, King RPG, the Grain into Gold PDF, and our own rules, tweaks, and additions. The NPC Boons are actually swiped from Pathfinder (edit to add: and I agree, they're brilliant!). Naval combat is from a website that I cited in there (can't remember where), and if you go there, it's actually a lot more robust (we figured for our purposes, we didn't need all of it). And the Mass Combat section is a cross between a Pathfinder supplement I had written years ago and a tactical miniatures wargame called Field of Glory (the rules of which I love very much). Very much a Frankenstein monster (in other words, very much a homebrew setting!).

And again, you're right about the riddle. When I ran it, they had to eventually roll Wisdom checks or something in order to get it!

Thanks again!
