Ok so this comes from a really silly conversation I was having with a friend of mine - but the drimic is a sad creature of about human-level intelligence that occurs when a dragon and a mimic uh >.> you know. Well dragons do love their treasure - some more than others.
In its natural form it is a fat little chest with lizard-like legs (think bulldog). The mouth is the lid, and the eyes sit on top of the lid in a toad-like fashion. On its back, the drimic sports stunted vestigial wings, and at the very back of it there is a tail. It retains some of its draconic heritage in that the drimic is equipped with a breath weapon.
Drimics can speak common but because of the shape of their mouth it is usually almost recognizably garbled. They have much better luck speaking draconian, hissing in the backs of their throats for the sibilance.
These creatures can become ancient and giant, and some might even become a living breathing stronghold if trained well enough over the generations.
There are a few unlucky souls out there who are what we call 'drimicborn' - the much much less fortunate relatives of your more common dragonborn. They kinda don't have necks - more that their head follows on from their body like a giant lump with a vast and gaping mouth. They are typically barrel-chested, with thin limbs that protrude awkwardly from their body. They have the capacity in their mouth to carry and hold many items, and their tiny useless wings help distinguish them from true dragonborn (as if that was going to be an issue).
Dragons would view drimics as something of an embarrassment, considering that they are born of a dragon who got a little too frisky with its treasure.
That's pretty much all that we discussed, but I am totally including either a drimic, or a castle-sized drimic, or a drimicborn in my next campaign. Nuffsaid.
