Homebrew races...feedback?

I was just about to throw in the same thing: I think the Canis is underpowered as is. It could use a bit more on it there, but the concept is great. I love the swamp dwarf. Deffinate cool stuff. Your campaign worlds sounds like it would be very cool to play in, just based on the races one could choose from. Keep up the good work.

Thanks, Shirt Guy John. :) I'm hammering out a term paper right now, but probably Wednesday night I'll have a Canis Kobold v1.1, or at least I hope (Wed. = end of my semester). This homebrew is something I've been batting around in my head since January or so, so hopefully I'll get some progress in on it over the semester break. I do have a map that I'm waiting to scan and which I'll post somewhere on-line once I do...

Hey,

Got a thought for the canis. Like you said, definitely give access to scent. Maybe even as a bonus feat.

They should also get a +2 on sense motive. Reasoning is that they can "smell" a bad thing. Neat aspect when a PC pipes in that things don't smell right.

Also, a bonus to Hide and Search wouldn't be out of order seeing as how they are a little underpowered. These guys don't really have anything going for them other than their luck. Of course, sometimes you have to make luck. Just my thoughts.

That's great! I think that's what I'll do — give the Canis a +2 racial bonus to Sense Motive and Scent. That should balance them out more or less. :) Thanks, SylverFlame. I should have the Serpens Kobolds (the other branch) up some time in the next day/day and a half, if anyone wants to comment on them — I'm still trying to think of a place in my world for them. Currently, my inclination is to integrate them into the lizardfolk societies in a subserviant role (I see the lizardfolk as a race of big-game/bounty hunters, amoral and unethical...my hobgoblins, on the other hand, have a quasi-mystical aspect to their culture, very disciplined, but extremely righteous...just some notes).

Hey kajamba, check out http://www.kenzerco.com. They have an upcoming product for their Kalamar campaign setting which details 2 entire hobgoblin nations along the same lines as your own, as well as giving insight into the culture of the scattered hobgoblin tribes who still exist outside of an actual nation. I think it's called Strength and Honor: Hobgoblins of Tellene, but I could be wrong. They'll have a link on the front page.

I've updated the canis to reflect the commentary in this thread, and I'm going to post a couple new subraces (well, at least the serpens kobolds) either later tonight or tomorrow. :) It's nice to be done with classes. Now just to take care of these bloody finals... :p
