I'm not fully decided on 4e yet, and I will be honest this is just a summer/beginning of fall campaign to give it a test run. If I like it on a long-term basis (and don't like Pathfinder more) I'll stick with it. I really wanted to give each of the races a "major" quest that anyone of that race could choose... or not choose to investigate. To be honest, I'm not even sure where all of them lead, but I have ideas swarming for what my players would find most interesting to discover. The City was definitely inspired by the Far Realms, something about it just really rings true to S&S, so yeah you got me... definitely inspired by it. Oh yeah, the Gem reference that is Scylla's major export, gems of shall we say a peculiar variety... more later on this. The Gray Lords are inspired by The Lady of Pain, the Doomed Folk (I think that's what they were called) from Michael Moorcock's Elric stories and the two gods (can't remember their names right now) from the Lankhmar stories. So honestly I don't know what they are yet, but I figure I have plenty of time to decide as my players won't be directly interacting with them for a while. I do know that their only concern are the traditions, well-being and maintaining of the pacts that are part of Scylla. Oh yeah, just a shot out to my brother, who wanted to play a drunkard Eladrin... this so messed with my original interpretation of the race that he forced me to reinvent them. I think it actually worked out for the best. We have played our first session, in which the body of an assassinated champion of the Raven Queen was stolen, the pact with Necropolis is threatened and the PC's will have to take their first trip down the Bone Road. Still writing it up but I'll post it when its ready.
