So, perhaps the Druid is a better wizard to compare, though even the Druid has more blasting than I’d give the witch. The witch i might make better at rituals by way of a curated list of spells that gain the ritual tag. The wizard is as powerful as it is because of its spell list, primarily. I’d probably use Int for the witch, not just for balance. The familiar should basically replace the direct damage of the Wizard or Druid’s spell list, or perhaps the Druids Wild Shape. Probably mostly out of combat utility, but perhaps some of the class’ healing can come from this. Probably I’d go with Int mod as a bonus to checks with the Influence Action when dealing with spirits, beasts, and maybe elementals, and gaining sylvan. Definitely a non starter, yes. I really dislike known spells, especially on classes meant to be versatile. It drives me crazy that rangers are more limited in spells than the Paladin, for instance. I’d rather use the spell list to limit the class’ power level. Sounds about right. And interesting line of thought, but I don’t see a good way to execute it. I think tying the healing and cursing makes a lot of sense I think Malisons would be similar to invocations, for sure. I’d say that the curse and familiar should be central, and so maybe the familiar is required for crafting special items, and for using the special ritual benefits. Definitely. A lot of it should just be in the spell list. I’d rather use subclasses to specialize in what sort of beings you treat with, beings of shadow, or nature, or the elements, or fey, or celestials or friends. Thanks! In 2024 all casters do rituals now, so it isn’t quite as unique. Rather than doing it like the wizard, perhaps the witch gains “always prepared” spells that are all rituals and some spells they can cast as rituals that others cannot, and at higher levels perhaps the ability to cast spells as rituals at a higher level. Maybe. I’d say it should be “within 5 feet of the witch”, rather than in contact. I don’t think that needs to cost an extra spell slot, tbh. Maybe a higher level slot than normal, but tbh if can just be part of the class. I mean, transforming the familiar rather than having it and a second creature has downsides built in.
