Horror at Dagger Rock

Anyone downloaded this, or maybe even tried it? It's a free adventure available at paizo.com, for the Pathfinder RPG. I hadn't heard of the company before (Sagawork Studios) but well, the price is right. In fact, I only heard about this at all because of the front news page here at EN World.

So, I'm in the process of downloading it currently, but right here and right now, that means it's going at a craaaaawl. So I thought I'd see what other people thought about it, while I wait, and just for the heck of it anyway. Is it 'old school', is it fun, is it pretty. . .

I downloaded it last night and gave it a look though, but haven't read it in detail yet. I gotta say I'm extremely impressed with the layout and the "old school" black & white maps, especially the Village of Relford (players' and GM's versions included). The covers are reminiscent of the "old school" with a contemporary flair. There isn't any interior art, but there are several maps and "close up" maps as well as some written player handouts and a "crude" handout map. It's very professionally packaged and presented - I look forward to diving into the text of the adventure.

Thank you, Sagawork Studios! B-)

is this the adventure from the old Forgotten Realms 2edADnD days? the maps for which can also be found on the FRIAtlas.

edit: replace Relford with Daggerford

Well, the map of Relford doesn't look like Daggerford at all to me. Relford doesn't even have a wall.

kewl. i didn't download the paizo one. but i do own the other Dagger Rock adventures.

there was one in Dungeon Magazine too back in the late 80s/early 90s.

Ah - I remember now! Trouble at Grog's in DUNGEON Magazine #4, set in the town of Dagger Rock (I had to Google it though to remember).

Yeah, this is something new:

Horror at Dagger Rock said:
At the edge of the Daggerstone Hills is Dagger Rock; a pinnacle of granite that thrusts more than one thousand feet into sky. At its base sits Relford; one of the oldest and most popular mining settlements in the region.

Although there was probably some inspiration from the original.

yeah, Trouble at Grog's is one. there was another one though during the d02 days. i meant the issue number was around the late 80s/early 90s (not the year) :o i think it was based in/near Daggerford.

Huh. Haven't come across those. Heh, it downloaded, some time after I left the fiendish device alone and sought sanity elsewhere.

Now, I get to actually look through it. . .

edit --- looking good. thanks, btw. xp++ :)

I was on a little ego-trip and googled Horror at Dagger Rock for fun and I stumbled upon this thread. I don't wish to hijack the thread so I hope you don't mind me replying. Thank you for the comments so far. I appreciate honest criticism as long as it is constructive.

Horror at Dagger Rock is my first work and is a taster for future modules in the similar vein.

It is a crawl and I make no apologies for that. That said, I have tried to keep things in that vein to a minimum (with varying degrees of success) and I have also tried to work in a few possibilities for poking around Relford as much as firing straight into the 'dungeon'. I have tried to make Relford similar to a Old West Mining town. Overall, it was my intention to release an open-ended adventure, so it requires the GM to first have a good read and expand on bits and pieces that he/she may find of interest. The GM is also there to moderate the timing and the pace of the information provided, using the 'events' that I have suggested therein.

TSR's Against the Cult of the Reptile God is possibly the closest corollary I can find; a module that I certainly had in mind when designing this adventure.

I also think there was a Dagger Rock in the Abor-Alz Hills/Bright Desert area, but I don't have Rary the Traitor on hand to confirm that. Dagger Rock is just a name and I am not familiar with Trouble at Grog's at all. The name Relford is happpenstance; coming from the Rel River which also flows near Rel-Draxa a nearby city. Rel-Draxa is featured a little more in Temple of the Kraken; the adventure I am working on now.
