I threw in the hill clan apparition to kind of round out the entry--I didn't want to make several different kinds of hounds, just the regular kind and the alpha. I thought it might be neat to include a hint of the hill clan spirits the hounds used to serve, but didn't want to overshadow the main focus of the entry. If I wanted to bump their presence in a game, though, I'd probably use wraiths. There are some definite "barrow wight" overtones here, though. To my great shame, I only read Hound of the Baskervilles in order to figure out what Chris was talking about when he said that it (the other monster) might have a Hound of the Baskervilles kind of flavor, and that was the first Sherlock Holmes story I'd ever read. However, I've lately been making up for my negligence. My wife played Irene Adler last year in Idle Muse Theater Company's Jeff-Recommended production of Sherlock Holmes and the Last Adventure (Sherlock himself has been Jeff nominated! The Jeffs are like the Tony Awards for Chicago theater), and she's been pushing the Sherlock on me pretty hard. I've been working my way slowly through the canon over the past month, and so far have read A Study in Scarlet, The Sign of the Four, Scandal in Bohemia, and The Red-headed League. Last night we watched the Jeremy Brett version of The Red-headed League on Netflix streaming. She's also exposed me to the (fantastic, imo) BBC show, Sherlock. Just found out yesterday that Benedict Cumberbatch, who pays Holmes in that show, will be joining Watson, aka Martin Freeman, aka Bilbo Baggins, in The Hobbit. Can't wait! Oh yeah, Claudio--that guy knows how to spin a tale. :)
