Two things the article leaves out is the world's economy still has issues after the 2008 bubble bust. Ebay was filled to the brim before 2008 with broken down GW products, after the crash it dried up to mainly bits. People were overspending and stopped when the market signaled. Mainly b/c there's only so much product any individual will suffer. After a point you end up with more product than you will ever build. One army is a big ask for time-strapped people. So a group mentality ended and the limited resource of time are the most important trend that has caused GW's slowdown. GW does some kits better than others. Their cavalry, large monsters, transports, and heavy kits are usually much better than the infantry-types. It depends; current Necrons, Scaven, and Beastmen are far improved over their metal predecessors. I respect the Marauder Era but we can't live in the past. Price to price comparing kits to their competition, GW is currently comparable with Fantasy Flight, Wyrd and many other companies that have better 'goodwill'; yet get flak more than any other. I've never seen the greatness of what X-Wing does -vs- what GW does. Also, GW transitioning to PPM would be a blessing and a curse. We'ed lose the best plastic kit producer for a WizKids Clone. 'Poorly Painted Minis' so I've heard. I don't worry about 3d printing b/c I haven't seen anything remotely interesting made yet, at a quality higher than Dollar Store junk. I also support a companies right to make money off a market they create, and protect it.
