And how does this make it not D&Dish really? Especially not 3E D&Dish? Notice the whole dungeonpunk and crystalpunk thing 3E has going in much of its art? And it's not like real-world legends and myths never spoke of heroes possessing incredible strength or remarkable weapons. Maybe ya didn't notice, but Final Fantasy usually involves a lot more fantasy than it does pseudo-science; automatic weapons and the like were, in FF7 frex, generally the province of Shinra, Barret, and Dyne. Sure, there were occasional mecha-like things made by Shinra, but generally you had a bunch of people running around with archaic weaponry and slaying dragons, chimeras, wurms, and whatnot. FF is better suited to D&D than D20 Modern, really; even the DMG has stats for a few guns, and they're not the focus of FF. Cloud and the rest are generally more like D&D characters in their phenomenal toughness, archaic weaponry, potent and widespread magic use, and the vast numbers of hideously powerful monsters running amok all around them. Sure there was the occasional alien and the uncommon bits of high-tech or modern-tech stuff, but most places, critters, and towns were more medieval than not. Vehicles (which are only generally common in the wealthier places in FF) are the only thing from D20 Modern that would really need porting into D&D, the rest is basically there.
