How cliché are the clichés?

Ok, trying this again.

How many of these have you actually done?

I'm sure there are numerous others that I'm forgetting...

They're not "clichés," dang it! They're "classics!" :D

Seriously, while I've done almost all of these, only some are recent. But you know, there's a reason these are the old standbys. When done well--and when combined with other, less "well-worn" stories, of course--they can still be some of the most fun stories you can play.

Of course, then there was the campaign where the evil drow party all met in a tavern to consult a wizened sage about the location of horde of maurading orcs/goblins which had recently kidnapped the princess and hidden her under a large pile of illusionary treasure so that they could obtain a major artifact required to destroy another major artifact before the party finished exploring the wizard's tower they were camped out in and be falsely accused of trespassing and get thrown in jail....

Did I miss anything? :D

wow, only actually done 2.

Though, who knows, the next adventure I play could drastically alter that, I mean many of them seem like pretty basic building blocks for a fantasy story.

Maybe there should be some kind of design adventure contest to see who can use the most and still produce a good adventure.

I like to combine the cliches. For example, the party meeting in a bar, which gets fireballed by a party of marauding goblins.

I actually ran a campaign based around absurdist versions of the cliches.

For example: the very first session began, "So, you meet in a bar..." Reason? Because all Adventuring Parties had to be officially registered and this included "Inn of Residence". It was a very fun and silly campaign :D

Due to this, I have used many of the cliches...

...but no drow. Never drow. Don't do F.R., don't do Drzzzzt (or however you spell his name).

I am Underdark Free and very happy! :D

Or you could reverse them.

The party meets in a wizard's tower,
Explores a bar,
And has to rescue a band of goblins...

from marauding princesses :D

Dunno, might work as Toon scenario.

Wow, out of all those I've only killed a horde of goblins once who were attacking a small village, and had a party form in a tavern once. Haven't done any of the others.

I had a scary wizard walk into a bar once. He said "Ow!". I've also done the marauding horde of orcs/goblins/kobolds/etc., but the players didn't kill them, they killed the players.
